Haggling on by it now

I'm looking at a car on ebay & it only offers a buy it now price. Haven't yet made arrangements to view it, but if I like the car, is it worth trying to haggle the price down, or would I be wasting my time?

I've just looked on a free valuation site. The guy selling the car wants £2390, yet the valuation site recommends £1158 (private good), or £1578.0

Just seems a bit weird haggling on a buy it now lol.0

Worst he can do is say no, at which point you walk away really (as long as you haven't actually bought it via eBay yet). I wouldn't pay an over inflated price for a second hand car, and I doubt many others would either. Need to make sure he adjusts the auction or whatever if you agree the price, unless he takes cash in hand and ends the auction (better for him as he keeps more money, but loses paypal protection...but that isn't your problem). We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

Email, ask to view car before buying it, then haggle. Why are you even thinknig about going to see this? It's listed at double book price. If you were willing to pay more, you could get it from a main dealer. He's not going to chop the price in half.0

agree with this in principle - but in reality the seller may feel he has you over a barrel in a sense ( if you have travelled for 2- 300 miles for an item )
I would email him and ask him if there any faults he has not mentioned in the listing or shown a photo of - if he says it is as stated then BIN ( saves you a wasted journey if someone BIN whilst you are on route and locks the car up to you as well)
- if when you go and check it out you find something not mentioned then start playing hardball ( would be his fault for not mentioning the faults you have found )As Martin says - please be nice - there is no such thing as a stupid question !

I have arranged to view this afternoon. I will only be travelling about 18 miles if that. I never go to far out of the area, it's just not practical.0
