How to wire up two outdoor lights to a PIR?

Options
Hi I've got two outdoor lights (without PIR's) and am going to buy a standalone PIR unit and I would like to wire up both lights to the one PIR so that when somebody walks past both lights come on. How would I go about doing this? I am planning on wiring them to a standard plug if this makes any difference.

I'd assume it would be something like Light 1 to PIR, Light 2 to PIR and cable from PIR to the plug but i'm not sure if that is right.

Any help appreciated :)

I did point out that I havent yet bought a PIR so it is a little tricky to determine the inputs and what the maximum cumulative load it is able to handle is. I just wanted to know if in general they would go in the order that I suggested and whether it would be a suitable setup or not before buying them.

I'd suggest finding a store where you can read the instructions for each PIR, determine whether or not they're suitable for the task at hand, and go from there.

Or look for some PIRs and see if the manufacturers have data sheets online that you can browse.

Thankyou googler, always nice to get some genuine advice on here.

Any idea if i'm right in thinking that the general idea of what I was thinking is possible if I find the right PIR? If it is I'll go look for one and read the instructions in store, if it isn't I wont bother.

    PIR to lights

these are good up to 1000 watts, if your lights are 60-100 watts fit a 3amp fuse in the plug.

Have a look here for a decent PIR which handles 2000w and has a 180 degree sensor... Look here for the instruction manual.

In terms of your wiring configuration you can do it the way that you have suggested, or dependent upon the position of your lights and your PIR you could go: Plug (to) PIR (to) Light 1 (to) Light 2.

Ah thanks to both of you that is excellent and exactly what I was after. I like the idea of going plug to pir to light 1 to light 2, I hadn't thought of that originally but that would work even better (i think)

I hadn't thought about which fuse I'd need so that was good advice too.

I am actually much more capable with electrics than my posts in this thread would suggest lol I just have to actually have the products in front of me to know what i'm doing, I can't visualise before hand if that makes sense

To be fair to you, Screwfix bollixed up their description calling it a PIR in the product title, and it should have been just called a Photocell without the PIR bit.
