Ive just got onto live. My xbox is plugged into my router. Does the firewall need to be enabled on the router. I have to disable it for my pc as it clashes with my firewall software.
Does xbox live need a firewall. I would assume so.

You've confused me...
Nothing "needs" a firewall. Some things needs a firewall to be disabled (or ports to be forwarded to the user client) - is this what you mean?
Someone else will advise at whether xbox 360 needs ports forwarded through the NAT firewall on the router...
But if you mean what you say.. then no, NOTHING needs a firewall. Its just advisory to stop being hacked but your xbox 360 should be secure enough anyway[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

You should be able to enable the firewall on the router, and it should run fine. At least that's how it is for me.
More importantly, why have you disabled it for your PC? You should be able to run the hardware firewall and software firewall (installed on your PC) without any problems."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Xbox 360 works fine thrught my linksys router with no port forwarding, althought did have a bit of trouble playing online with some games in which case you need to forward some ports but nothing to worry about!
the xbox dosnt need a firewall but your network does!!! turn the router firewall on AND your PC's firewall! two is better than one!0 -
Thanks for your replies.
As for my pc, it has a software firewall running. I did have the 2, i.e. software and router but the software kept crashing etc. Online support recomended i turn off the router firewall and just keep my pc firewall running.
As for the xbox i assumed that as its basically a pc i would have needed it to be protected by a firewall.0 -
Which software firewall are you using? I can't see how the router would make it crash...?
Either way, I'd turn the router firewall back on, and think about switching software firewall if that's where the issue lies. Something like Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall or ZoneAlarm, both of which are free."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Trend Micro Internet Security 2006. Doesnt like firewall on router, keeps disabling software firewall.0

I don't understand how that's possible though. The router won't be able to control your software firewall (or anything to do with your PC for that matter)."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0
