contents insurance

Hi not sure if i have posted this in the right area?

I have contents insurance and wondered where i would stand with a damaged mobile phone? I didnt insure it with my mobile provider but wondered if i could claim anything via my contents insurance instead?

Look forward to someones thoughts.

Do you have accidental damage on your house contents policy.

If so, easiest thing would be to ring and ask

    I wouldn't ring and ask.
I'd check your policy to see if it's covered and also check the cost.
Ringing and asking can put an "incident" against you even if you don't claim.

If you claim you will have to pay an excess plus a loading for several years and loss of no claims.
You can estimate the increase by using pretend (or virtual) quotes where you pretend you claimed and then pretend you didn't and then compare.

You also ought to check the cost of getting the phone repaired.

I would avoid calling to ask if you can as some people have found it was recorded agasint them as a loss even though they didn't claim.

I agree with Lisyloo in hindsight, i have had an enquiry of mine recorded as an 'incident' but didnt know about it till about 3 years later.

Probably with your excess it really wouldnt be worth it.
