    You read correctly then :)

    See here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mondeo

141 MPH without any MODS ;)

So an extra 29mph with Mods:rotfl::T

Tell me:D I'm sure you will know... Do "MODS" always increase the top speed of a car?.... And who was the brainiac that realised that "x" amount of extra power = an extra 29mph?...... Would double power = double speed?:D

So yours is modded? As I'm sure the Quote was " My cars top speed is 170mph" or something similar....

Also in that thread was MPG figures Motorway and Town...which I've also read different figures by the same poster in another thread...... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Any particular models you would be recommending? :) Had a look and they seem to be well priced, low mileage and good condition.

Regards to the mondeo, think I would look for the mk3 mondeo as they seem to be just as in budget as the mk2 and mk1.

Was originally looking for a diesel, anyone had any experiences with a diesel mondeo?
Read somewhere that they were less reliable than the petrol equivalent.

I like the logic behind this, made me laugh.
Did put me at ease however at looking at cars with mileage over 100,000 and think I would definitely look at cars with higher mileage now rather than just presuming they are going to beat up.

Yep. Persona coupe (Group 12). 1.8L DOHC engine, very reliable, and remarkably sporty. Do about 40mpg on a well-treated car. Engine only really breaks in at 100,000 miles. Mine will do 250,000 (that's the bet I've promised).

Satria compact. unsure of insurance group. Uses a couple of different engines, mainly running in 1.6L. Mpg would be in 45 range.

Gti- runs 1.8L and uses same engine as coupe. Younger car slightly, and heavier tan coupe, but AFAIK, usually gets 35-40MPG. Same insurance group- 12.

Those are older models- you should be able to pick most of them up between £500-£1000. Most should have around 60,000 miles- I'd reasonably expect to pick up a couple at least for 2k! Genrally, most common problems include window regulator/motor playing up, which is cheap to fix, and front calipers playing up a little. Again- easily fixed.

I'm very fond of Proton- my husband and I run the owners club (don't want to post link in case against MSE rules?), so any questions you have- feel free.

I'd take a turbo-charged 4 cylinder engine over a heavy, sluggish V6 any day of the week.

Agree but with an old school turbo with plenty of lag to make driving entertaining.

Put your foot down, nothing, nothing vrooooom :D
I used to have an old Saab 900, was a hoot to drive.

    That was it.

    1. Nothing
    2, Nothing
    3. Nothing
    4. wooo hooooo :D

Back to the OPs query, anything japanese, would also recommend a ford mondeo, not from the mechanical pov as I know little about the oily bits and how often they may fail, but from the comfort and driving aspect.

At an old company I would get hire cars regularly, most of the time they were mondeos or vectras, I could happily do Leeds to Bristol and back in a day in the mondeo and feel fresh at both ends of the trip, whilst if |I did that trip in a Vectra I would need the services of a good chiropractor. Also the mondeo handled much better and had a good chuck-ability factor unlike the vectra which offered zero feedback on handling and steering.
