Not posted on these boards before :o

We (2 adults and 2 small kids) are heading off to Norfolk for our summer hols. The one and only time I've been to Norfolk the whole week was spent on a boat on the Broads so I wondered if you lovely people could recommend anything worthwhile to see/do whilst we are there. If it could be child friendly that would be a bonus but not a necessity ;)
Oh and any recommendations for beaches down there? Assuming the weather is even good enough to go on of course ;)

The beaches at Cromer are nice. For the best fish and chips in the world, you want Franks in Wisbech.

ooooh, can think of a few,

Banham zoo, dinosaur adventure park bewilderwood

Ive been to the first 2 with my DS's who are 5 and 6 and they loved them , its a full day out really and fairly pricey but the kids like them !

Theres the norman castle in the centre of Norwich

Beaches wise, theres Great Yarmouth which my OH calls a scummy blackpool BUT theres all sorts of arcades and rides/crazy golf etc for the kids all along the front. We head to either Gorleston which is just along the coast from Yarmouth but its a lovely beach, or Wells on the north norfolk coast which is a good mix of both with a harbour and tiny arcade and lovely spacious beach, much less comercial than Yarmouth.

Where (roughly) are you going to be based ?

That's great - lots of links to look into - thanks for the recommendations :D

Mishka - we're near Stanhoe but with a car we're happy to travel around the county.

But Wisbech isnt Norfolk! Its in the middle of the flat Cambridgeshire/Lincolnshire fens  NOT a place for holidays!! I think that its most famous for the Tony Martin murder case (and that gives you an insight to what its like locally)! (Cor, Norfolk people would be upset to think people believed Wisbech was in our county!)

You may like Sheringham - an old fashioned sea side town with steam trains, a big leisure pool centre, nice beaches and old fashioned shops.

OK, so my geography was slightly out - I live near Wisbech and we consider ourselves to be in Norfolk even if our postcode is Cambridge.

I don't see how that makes it not a place for holidays though. I don't need to know about the Tony Martin place to 'get an insight' into what it's like there. I live there. The fens are beautiful and Walpole St Peter, nearby, is best known for having the Cathedral of the Fens, not for someone being killed. And the Franks is still the best chippy I've ever found.

AS your near stanhoe, definitly check out the beach at Holkham... the best around, and is fairly secluded. You can then journey into wells for fish and chips... but the parking is tight and expensive, the beach is a long way from the town centre - but you can take the little train...

Also the Shirehorse centre is a good way to spend a couple of hours... v. child friendly... http://hillside.org.uk/OpenDaysatWestRunton.htm

You could also take the steam train from Holt to Sheringham... approx £10 per adult (not sure about child prices) which makes a good day out.

    .

Have you lived there very long? I shouldnt think its a magnet for holiday makers, not even with a good chip shop. Fens - beautiful?? Theres another thread running somewhere on the boards about Wisbech. Someone thought it was in Norfolk and wondered why property was so cheap there - I always thought it was an estate agents ruse to say Norfolk about that town. (Its not really a Cathedral in Walpole is it? - we could have a poll to see if people knew about a church at Walpole or the Tony Martin/gypsey case - want a bet on the outcome? :)).

Anyway, we are off the subject of holiday places in Norfolk - sorry OP.
