Help me find a wedding venue within 1.5 hrs of London?

Dear All,
I’m looking for some help regarding a venue as the one we had our heart is off the list… we went to meet the conference manager who was like a teenager straight from high school! We have been looking for an alternative for a few months now but quotes coming back are just too high and now we are both thinking we may never get married!
Basically we live in London, but would really like an old English house with nice gardens for our wedding. We are aiming for about 40-50 guests and would like to spend about £3k all up for the reception – however given our minimum numbers we are finding this really hard?
Our preference is for late May, and we are looking for Friday/Sundays to try and get some discounts/offers
Having said that… would really appreciate any advice on weddings you have been to, anywhere you have seen which you think would be a good venue? We would prefer somewhere within 1.5 hrs of London and a relaxed setting!
Thank you for your help!
Have a look at our wedding venue from March. Branksome Place in Haslemere- Surrey, straight down the A3. Its an edwardian hotel, with lots of grounds. Not sure if they have a special deal on still, but when we married, they had a £3k deal, 50 guests, inc all room hire, food, evening bacon butties, and a drinks package. You would still need to pay for your own decor and a DJ if you want one, but their recommended DJ is really good and very reasonable-about £200.
The food is really excellent, all our guests commented. They have a big free car park, and lots of hotel rooms so all your guests can stay.
Definately worth a look, and their co-ordinator Regan was great.
P.S, i am happy to PM a link to our wedding pics, if anyone wants to see a bit of the venue.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

They have minimum numbers of 70 for a Saturday over the 'peak' months. And at a minimum of £94 a head, that's £6,580 already. Even if the OP could negotiate the minimum numbers, the wedding breakfast would be £4,700 before you factor the evening buffet into it.
The place is gorgeous though!

You could try the Grims Dyke Hotel in Stanmore.

This is true, but it all depends on what type of day you want. My wedding cost under £8000 all in and we had an afternoon ceremony here with just en evening reception (no wedding breakfast). We got a late booking and they do negotiate discounts for that. Never take face value for prices - always try to haggle it down!
They are doing specials which would bring the price down to £89 a head (I know this isn't a lot of difference, but remember transport probably wouldn't be needed for the bride - I got ready there, so saved several hundreds of pounds on a car).
Just remember that's just one package, they are flexible and the girl that was there 2 years ago was lovely! Our wedding wasn't exclusive, but we didn't have any problems with any other guests etc.
(Remember also that this price is inclusive of the venue hire charge, there is not an additional charge for that.)0 -
