Advice needed for buying from a zero rated seller

Hi
Looking to bid on an item listed by a zero rated bidder, am a little concerned that they don't have a track record on ebay. They will accept paypal or cash on collection, item is stored at a friends house.
How do you ask for reassurances from the seller before bidding? If I do bid and win what is the best way to ensure that I don't get conned ?

They are buying!
Depends how much you are spending with them I don't think there is a foolproof method for buying without the chance of getting ripped off. Ebay pretty much works on trust to an extent as you pay up front. Personally I wouldn't risk more than a couple of pounds with a zero rated seller - but saying that we all start somewhere.0 -
If you're paying cash on collection, it's not like they can take your money and not send the item.
With a seller with no feedback, all you have to go on is your gut.My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
i've bought from several sellers with 0 feedback and never had a problem, i've not been an ebayer for long myself and i beleive we all have to start somewhere. when i first started selling off a few items i had to hope that people put their trust in me as a newbie and thankfully they did. if no-one ever trusted or bought from newbies they'd never get anywhere, so i say give everyone the benefit of the doubt unless your gut tells you it's a scam or summat just don;t look rightNobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission

I guess it depends on what the item is.
If it's a laptop, then you may be wary.
it's a CD or something small and insignificant - well we all have to start somewhere.
If you are worried, see what else they have for sale or have bid on.
Go to advanced search > search by seller/bidderIt's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0 -
If you are collecting then I don't really see a problem.
If something is advertised in the newspaper we take a chance, so in theory, with ebay, it should be advantageous as you've (hopefully) seen a photograph.0
