broken video/sound card?

I used to be able to watch dvd's on my pc but i only get silent movies now.
I've looked at all the settings which seem to be ok--and i can still play music cd's and listen live via the internet:confused:
Any help would be appreciated and no offence to brummybloke who's helped;)

well if you can watch a movie without sound and you can play music, then it appears your soundcard/video card is not broken. What do you use on your computer to watch films/play music? if you have the name of the software perhaps do a search and look for video but no audio and the name of your software program. It sounds like you may have altered one of the settings ,and without knowing what you are using it would be hard to second guess. Other than that, you may have downloaded something thats altered a setting. with sound there are a few places to check on your computer but, do a search first on google then if no luck repost here.
