recommendation for supplier of network stuff - cables etc?

i'm going to do a little network in the very near future and although I've got an idea what I need- cable, faceplates and modules. BUT I'm not sure where to get it from and thats where you come in :)

Can anyone give a recommendation for online retailers for networking supplies?

Thanks :)

  • Generally you can use Ebuyer, Maplin's, Amazon. You know just the general retailers or 'e-tailers'

I wasn't impressed with Ebuyers selection but didn't think of Amazon. What I had in mind is one of the sites that seem to specialise in network equipment.

Will give amazon a look to see whats available but dont really want to have to buy from multiple sources if I can help it.

These people are very good, think you will find they stock pretty much everything you could ever imagine:

  • Well it all depends on what sort of setup you want.

The sockets/faceplates you can buy from maplins.

If your looking for a switch then you can buy that from amazon/ebuyer/scan

Homeplug solution, again most e-tailers sell them.

    NSA? Rack? Server?

    The list is endless :D

Some times it's worth checking http://www.automatedhome.co.uk/ they usually have some reviews/list suppliers etc.

B&Q do networking kits with CAT5 cable, boxes, punch-down tools etc.

Sorry could have been a little more specific.

    Just looking for

    cat5e cable (probably 100m)
    faceplate
    modules
    tools - crimper and punchdown

In the first instance I'm just putting a network point in 2 rooms and running cable back to a multi-module faceplate in a cupboard and connecting this directly to my router.

For small quantities, Maplin is Ok, but you'll get everything much cheaper going to one of the main electrical supplies companies such as QVS electrical or TLC.

Screwfix can also be quite competitive, but have a high postal charge for smaller value orders.

Etradehouse are good if you are shopping on price.

If just for one offs, try their eBay site: Safekom
