Christmas shopping - beware

Why is everybody attacking thecatman for making this observation for us all? I personally do not buy mince pies (based on the fact that I don't like them but that is personal choice) but this is meant to be a money saving site, and lots of people are trying to give their family a lovely Christmas which means stocking up on things now and lots of us own these magic things called FREEZERS which is better kept full for running costs so why not stock up for christmas if you so desire, give people a brake and don't be so nasty!
I would like to welcome thecatman to the site:beer: , because for the sarcastic people you might not have noticed that this was thecatmans first post, I wouldn't blame them if they didn't bother to visit again!:eek:0 -
I know. It is wrong and as welcoming as a firing squad.S!!!!horpe0

Not wanting to get involved in the potential slanging match that is developing but it is the same with all supermarkets their first big batch in will have a short date life and its only around end of oct begining of nov that dates will start to arrive that will last beyond xmas. This is the standard life of such products"Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0

i don't like them but someone pointed it out to me the other day!0 -
I thought this was going to be a warning to either
A) Remember where you've actually hidden the bargain xmas presents you've been buying since the 1st of January
or
Remember what you've bought and for whom. Thus eliminating duplicate pressies. When it comes to thought, some people stop at nothing.........0 -
Thanks Bagpuss1973 and those who actually understood my first posting!
The point I was trying to make was that some people like to (or even must for financial reasons) be able to buy their Xmas goodies over a period of weeks rather than join the last minute rush.
Tescos obviously realise this and so start to sell mince pies/puds etc as soon as summer(?) is over - hence they had mince pies next to the remaining barbecue briquettes!
I just thought it was a bit cheeky to sell stock for Xmas 2006 knowing that it would be out of date two months before.
I used to work in Somerfield and if we received short-dated stock it was clearly marked as such on the delivery pallets and had to be sold ASAP to avoid waste.
I'll try not to be so contentious with my next posting0 -

The only people with space in their freezers are those who don't get their meat free from Tesco. Those of us who R&R at Tesco have packed their freezers full to bursting with topside, sirloin steak and mince, not to mention the odd chicken!
So I'm grateful to Catman because I would never have expected them to become out of date before Christmas itself (not that I actually eat them myself, but I will learn from the principle).
Thanks!0 -
