I just got a call from them lol. He said he was from currencies.co.uk and asked if I had entered their competition (yes) and where did I find the competition? I said errr just by googling competitions I think :p and he said was it moneysavingexpert.com by any chance? Oh.. yes I said. Said the call was just to validate my entry.
The man said it was just for their marketing purposes or something. Then he asked if the number he called me on was the best number to get me on should I win, and checked my email address too. Then asked how often I need foreign currency (not very often) and wished me luck in the competition :)

i just had a call too, asking how id found the comp, and i said on here, didn't see the point in lying. they stated it was for marketing purposes, and did i use foreign currency on a regular basis or just for when i went on holiday. seemed pretty legit.

They are obviously p***ed off that their little comp is attracting what they would call "non-serious" entrants. I suspect that they are trying to weed out entrants so that the prize is directed at people who might spend money with them.

Of course, this is totally illegal but, who can tell?

    I got the call too
The guy who called me was very nice. I said I had found the site through mse. He asked if I transferred money abroad, as I send money over to my son in the USA I said yes. We had a little chat and he explained that sending small amounts of euros abroad would be cost effective as they use business rates not 'holiday' rates. Unfortunately, to send to the USA it needs to be larger amounts for it to be cost effective for me. He also said that they would contact me IF I won the competition.
I really think it's just a phone call to drum up business and if I was sending a large amount over to my son I would probably use them. Just because they were very polite, reasonable fees and good exchange rates. I did have a good look around the site after entering the competition.

I got an email asking whether I had any 'currency needs'. Thing is, if I did, I would have contacted them, not entered their competition and then waited for them to contact me. It seems a bit weird to me.
  • I missed the call but phoned them back, again, nice guy I spoke to, I told him I found it through mse (also didn't see the point in lying) he actually told me that mine was a good guess rofl I have no idea about these sorts of things so it was just random numbers but he gave me a little hope. I personally don't think there's anything sinister in these calls, general follow up and trying to drum up my business I would imagine, also if they are a good company they may contact Martin and try and get on this site somewhere for referals after all they now know theres plenty of us mse'rs lol, good luck all hopefully one of us will get the winning call, if they phone me back I know I will get all excited, I've already had the sales call lol x
A huge Thank you to all posters
  • Not happy entering if I'm gonna get a phone call. I never give out my mobile number for comps and I live with my parents who like to know everything which is going on with my life (not in a nasty way, they just do) and I rarely answer the house phone. Don't fancy their annoyance when they find out I'm giving out their landline number. Nice comp though :)

they called me, and did mention that they are overwhelmed with the response so they obviously werent expecting so many people to enter!
