Just booked a flight to Geneva for a weeks holiday in Switzerland in the last week of october. Planning for a few days in interlaken with couple of days in zurich and geneva.
Have not yet booked any accomodation. Any ideas and advice about hotel bookings, travel passes and must do/ avoid things would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

This pass may be too long in validity for you but covers loads on trains around Interlaken.

We have just got back from a trip touring Switzerland and it was the most fantastic holiday. Are you planning on hiring a car or using public transport? What sort of accommodation are you looking for - basic or luxury. I can let you know where we stayed and what we thought of the places (haven't had time to put anything on trip advisor yet).0

Thanks.
We were after a basic accomodation with good access to public transport. Something nice and pleasant on a budget.
I believe the Swiss Pass is not of much use as most trips to the mountains are not covered by it!0 -

You should have a look at https://www.bnb.ch for bed and breakfast, some in small hotels but most in private homes, https://www.rooms.ch for accomodation in lower catogery hotels.
The Swiss Pass/SaverPass would be ideal for a wider planned trip such as yours as two people travelling together get a discount. (Saver Pass)
The pass is valid for most of the railways, lake boats, bus routes and city transport and will certainly get you to the mountain resorts. Where it is not valid, ie, some high level mountain railways and cable Cars it gives a 50% discount, the pass comes with a map of validity.
The best thing about the Swiss Pass is that it gives flexibility and an unlimited amount of travel.

We had printed off lots of bed and breakfast details as we didn't want to book in advance, we just wanted to take each day as it came. We only managed to find one of the places we were looking for which was on a very busy road miles outside Zurich. In the end we gave up with info we had taken and just stopped the car when we saw somewhere we liked. Would definitely receommend going up Pilatus, but it is expensive. Think it was CHF116 for 2 of us but if you have a Swiss Pass, think it was 50% off.
Although Switzerland is expensive, we found Zurich to be extremely expensive. Also it was very difficult to get a mid morning cup of coffee and be able to sit outside. Most places seem to cater for lunchtime and evening trade. Can't say it was one of our favourites. Lucerne was so much prettier. Feel free to PM me if you need any more details.0 -
Wondered if anyone would help me with this - where to buy the swiss saver pass for 8 days - online here or once we reach geneva? I mean which would be cheaper?

Don't bother with Zurich and you may only need a day or two in Geneva. Use your time more productively and go to Luzern and Zermatt which are really nice and go on the train to Gornergratt which is opposite the Matterhorn and you will see a wonderful view.**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? We stayed further down camping in September but when we got there early morning it was bloody freezing. Get yourself a hostel and it will be lovely.**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0
