iMac or Macbook pro?

My Sony Vaio just broke (as you can see from below), I never really took it anywhere, just maybe moved it from living room to bedroom, so thinking that I might not need a macbook...
Then again, I think I /might/ want to move around, or take it to uni, or to a friends? Though, I've never done that before with my Vaio (which I've had for 2 years)
:money: < dunno why, just felt like it.

Macbook Pro is cheaper than a desktop so there's that to consider. The Macbook Pro is an aluminium unibody construction so it'll take a fair bit of hammer and you've always got the portability. But OTOH, you get a far bigger screen on the desktop.0

All it comes down to is what you'll use it for.
Say if you do photoshop work (graphical work in general), you would be better with the imac (bigger screen, plus you get a mouse).
If you just want it for casual browsing etc, then macbook it is.
I have an imac, I love it, the girlfriend has a macbook she loves it. It's a tough decision, but either way i'm sure you won't regret it!
(Plus if you have/plan to get an iphone, then you should get an imac, as you wouldn't need the macbook for portability!):exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
I'm not sure where Hammyman gets the idea that a MacBook Pro is cheaper than an iMac from. And the higher resolution 15" Pro screen is a similar height to the 21" iMac's (1680x1050 vs 1920x1080). (And if you do buy a MacBook Pro I would strongly recommend that denser screen option.)
If you are wanting to buy just the one machine I would default to a portable first - you may never use it as a portable but even if you only occasionally want to use it in another room or slouched on the couch you do have that option.
And if you do want the 27" iMac set up a similar rig can be arranged with a MacBook Pro and an external display (for a similar total price).0 -
Would totally agree with Kim. I would def go with Mac Book Pro for portability - I have one and would recommend and then use the 27" Apple display which can be wirelessly connected along with keyboard if needed.
By the way I am probably being totally thick but can somebody please tell me what button to press or go to on here to start a new thread!!! Its driving me crazy...... Thanks!0 -

You have to pop one level up (click Techie Stuff in the blue breadcrumbs above). On that list of topics you should find a blue new thread button.
You can not start a new thread in this view (where you read the individual messages.)0
