OK... we've cleared out the peas and the onions on our allotment and we are making a dent in the potato patch. What should we be planting now?
I've got some leeks that I've put in, some florence fennel I've been nurturing and some cavolo nero.... what else can we plant now?
Will carrots and beetroot grow in time?
All advice greatfully received.

I'm not going to be much help as I've only had my Allotment since December so a bit of a learning curve for me but this week I've sown some Pak Choi and some Baby turnips which will fill a gap. I'm off up the Allotment later and hoping to see what advice everyone else can give now that I have some space cleared from Early spuds. The rest of the plot is full with leeks, carrots, maincrop spuds, psb, cabbages, caulis, swede, sweetcorn, fennel, pumpkin, squashes, celery and celeriac - I'm well and truly addicted to my Allotment.;)"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

I have just sown some carrots for winter and some cauli for next march time. These are just hit and misses but i thought id give them a whirl as the frost is supposed to make carrots sweeter

Also ive just sown some french beans and runner beans for a late crop
Did some more beetroot about three weeks ago and swede about the same time, hopefully will be what we need for the winter if it works

Pak Choi (but treat them as cabbage and cover them)
Spring greens- Durham early cabbage or flower of spring seem pretty good
Carrots- A quick variety like atlas
Potatoes for christmas
Kale
Turnip either for turnips or turnip tops
Onion Sets (september)
Garlic (September)
Kohl Rabi
Japanese onions
Romanesco cauliflower (but started that end of July, you might be lucky though depending on where you are!)
Beetroot
Purple sprouting broccoli
Cauliflower- all year round
Spring onions- a winter hardy variety like lisbon winter hardy
Winter salad
Spinach
Peas and sweet peas (september for overwintering and a really early crop)
Er.... will go and take a look in my greenhouse as to what else I have sowed!Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -

Wow! That's a pretty comprehensive list. Didn't know you could plant spuds so late - what are the best varieties?Pak Choi (but treat them as cabbage and cover them)

re xmas spuds I have carlingford, vivaldi, maris peer and bambino to get in but as the summer crops have been so huge I've only managed to get the bambinos in so far!
I plan to reuse the bags the summer crops are in and put them in the greenhouse when the weather turns.I usually just leave them outside and they do well but seeing as OH treated me this year to a new shiny proper GH it'd be rude not to use it...thats when I can actually put anything else in there as the triffids are currently hanging out the door :rotfl:0
