Experian credit score warning

Options
A friend at work, who subscribes to Experian, got an email from them this morning warning that a recent action had affected her credit score. She logged in and the page showed a much lower score than she should have, it was partially greyed out but no where did it say sample or example and suggested she pay £5 to get her full report. Worried about it, she paid the £5 and her report had no problems, no unusal actions and a good score!

She is furious with Experian and has rung to complain but is getting no where with them, no apology and no refund of the extra £5 she's paid, needless to say she's cancelled her subscription with them.

Just wanted to warn anyone who's received a similar email from them not to panic.

The score is meaningless anyway. Total waste of £5. I can generate a random 3 digit number for much less if anyone is interested :)

surely all she needs to do is send them the email and ask how her credit score was affected.

Did it not say "THAT MIGHT affect credit score"?

It was likely just a credit alert telling her that they have detected changes to her credit file. She should have just ordered her credit report (included in subscription) and checked what the change was. You normally get one of these warnings when clearing a credit card, getting new credit, missing a payment etc.

This would also pick up fraudulent activity. Ask her to re-read the email. I bet that is what it said as I was a member for a year and always receive these when clearing debts.
