blu ray

hi,i thinking about getting a samsung blu-ray player but my tv is a samsung 720i hd tv ,i know i will not get the full affect as a 1080i hd tv but would it be worth going for the blu-ray player or just stick with a dvd player

  • suggest you try one out if possible so you can decide if it's worth it!

i would've thought you'd want to upgrade your TV tho - if you're gonna do this soon anyway, could go for the blu ray.

but as with all AV equipment, you should test it to see if YOU like the results! Others' opinions are whether THEY like the results (at best) :)

Why does the OP need to change their TV? Unless its 42+ inches and they sit 4ft away from it, the human eye simply can't perceive the difference between 720p and higher resolutions at normal viewing distances, even on 50" TVs.

However the advice about testing it does stand though. Blu-ray is noticably better than DVD but not massively better than upscaled DVD when done with a player with good upscaling.

I've got a BD player with a TV that's only got 768 line vertical resolution, and the BD is still better than upscaled DVD. Plus the BD player has t'interweb streaming, with an iPlayer HD playback which is v.good.

Never said that. I stick with my original suggestion of TRY IT OUT YOURSELF!

IMHO main consideration with bluray is the price of the movies, not the price of the player which will quickly be exceeded by the extra you paid for BRs over DVDs.

Personally I rent DVDs & BRs through Tesco (repackaged LoveFilm) so it's well worth it. But I buy very few BRs...
