Just had a look and it is a minefield with prices all over the place, quite scary

I spent weeks reading reviews and looking at blogs when i first decided that i would need a dehydrator. I definitely made the right choice although it was little pricey. I think at this time of year when peeps are harvesting home frown veg from the garden people start looking more at alternative storage methods.

I bought the excalibur 5 tray from Juiceland and i`m more than happy with it, every now and again you can stumble upon a bargain on ebay but when i was looking they were snapped up pretty quickly and the prices climbed quite high so i eventually decided on a new one to take advantage of the quarrantee.

You need to copy the IMG code straight from photo bucket and just paste that directly in your reply... That's what I did above.

I am sick of throwing away over ripe bananas.

I do use them to make banana muffins but sometimes they go a bit too ripe and I end up binnning them.

I read somewhere that you can freeze them and use them to make muffins, bread etc so thought I would give it a go.

Seal 90% of the top of the bag using the heat strip, you will have to put it in at an angle to do this.

Doh! Why have I been struggling to keep the bag in the vac at an angle to seal it.

Just snip the top corner off at a 45 deg angle, just wide enough to fit you blue strip into and then seal across the top of the bag as you would normally.

SB, doing that with the blue strip, is it holding fully because i've found that a few times the seal has missed a teeny bit at the side of the blue strip, then over time air can leak in.

I've read that bananas keep well once peeled like that. I've just bought two bunches reduced to clear and will be dehydrating and vac packing them in the morning. I have so much stored fruit its unreal!

I found I had three bananas seriously over-ripe today, so I made a banana loaf. Turned out a bit more 'solid' than I'd hoped but is still yummy and moist.

What I have done is have the blue strip up to the top of the bag, then the air can get taken out ot the bag better, vac it, wait till my lid pops up and whilst it is still stuck on the heat seal, open the top of the bag gently and cut the blue strip off, then pull the bag down and seal above where it has been sealed.

Hope I have explained that properly.

I usually make banana and sultana buns for my Grandson but today I made the granola and used mashed banana as the glue for holding it together. It is rather nice if I do say so myself!

I have never made banana bread but the banana and blueberry muffins I have recently started making are nice.

    ;)

I will have to give banana bread a go for a change.
