Lids have to be thrown away after one use???
I'm making jam in the same jars i've had for years... they just keep going round and around in my pantry, dishwasher, cupboard cycle!!0 -
Right I cut the channel bit off my spaghetti packet and used that, it was a great success. I tried it again, exactly the same things but it wouldn't work. Thats annoying, I didn't do anything different.
Anyway i've just paid my son petrol money to go to Tesco for some bags for me like SB used!:D0 -
Sorry folks, I will come back and answer your questions a bit later when I have chucked my daughter off the main pc, I can't type on this netbook!0

Kevin, I had a round one and the fan is at the bottom so it is very inefficient and the heat is distributed poorly. I threw it out. Excalibur is the one I have now and it is the bees knees0

Hi,I buy my bags from www.culinaryinnovations.co.uk they have a good selection of sizes....make sure you choose the embossed bags, the postage is quite alot but I usually make a large order and then split it with friends and family. If you live near you can collect for free.
I bought some from there a few years ago but wasn't impressed.
I only seemed to be able to use them once, they let air in if I tried to use some of them a second time.0 -
SB did you mean that you used the resealable bits as a kind of straw?
Yep!
But because my machine isn't as powerful as yours it didn't seal it 100% the first time and I suppose a bit of air leaked through the 'straw' bit.
I did it again and it sucked a tiny bit more air out then sealed and it was fine.0 -
Angelina-M wrote: »SB I love that!! Ok so all you did is use the top of the Tesco bag and lay it in the hole at the top of your bag and let it run through the bag, then closed the bag and the blue channel with the heatseal?
Yes.
With the jars, don't tighten them at all. I screwed them on until I got the slightest resistance and left it at that. I was able to tighten them up after they had sealed. I've just done a couple of jars that i'd saved for my jam making and sealed some sweetcorn left over from dinner and a packet of sultanas.
Off to have another go at those jars.0 -
I have been following this thread with fascination and am totally hooked, especially using the canisters to seal jars. I have some jars that held pickles and want to make some pickled eggs and seal the jars. Would they be suitable for this and does anyone have one of these Andrew James Pro Vacuum Food Sealer

If you do or have an opinion I would very much appreciate it as I am now on the starters block to order. Also, are the jars once sealed alright to stay in the cupboard until opened, the same as when you buy them from the supermarket, please.
