  • I have a basic Lloyds TSB Cash account, have had it now for 13 months and have run it impeccably (large and regular deposits, never been overdrawn or had a bounced payment etc) but they refuse to let me upgrade to a classic account as I am still considered "high risk" on their internal credit scoring system, but can't tell me why as even the bank manager agrees that my account should be upgraded. Although the manager she said she would help me investigate/appeal etc, I just lost patience and went across the road to open a Nationwide FlexAccount (full current account), which they were more than happy to give me. Now because my local branch of Nationwide has just shut down (even though I use internet banking, I do like to visit the branch for a couple of things), I have applied for a full HSBC account and they have approved me for that also - but STILL unable to upgrade the bloomin' basic account at Lloyds!

    I'll never understand it...
Bank Accounts - HSBC Advance Current Account, Nationwide Flex Current Account, Lloyds TSB Basic Account
Credit Cards - HSBC (£2000 limit), Vanquis (£1750 limit), Capital One (£800 limit), Barclaycard Initial (£260 limit)

I got my Lloydstsb cash card account upgraded a month ago. The "credit scoring" field (number from 1-9 then "99") on their CRM system is different to the "upgrade" section (a text field - mine said "eligible to upgrade to select"). They do not credit score you until a month or so after you upgrade to a normal current account.

I did wait 5 years though for this to happen - but I never asked my bank if it *could* change until relatively recently as I was mainly happy that I actually had a debit card.

LLoyds seem to have applied a slight black magic to their upgrade policy. If you can get a full account elsewhere, then move, as their minds aren't changed very quickly.
  • Trust me, I work for Barclays, how you run your cash card account has no bearing whatsoever!

Ok you say you work for Barclays and is has no bearing what so ever im afraid you need to start taking notice. My mum has had a Barclays Cash Card account for the last 2 years and has continued to default on all her other accounts (debt in excess of £25,000 + £175,000 mortgage) i went with her to open the account in 2010 she was refered and later accepted. She is paid £2,800 per month and only makes paymnt on the bills (she does not pay of her credit card or loan debt) Although she does make a minimal payment on the mortgage so she doesn't loose the house. Her average balance a day after getting paid is £0. 6 Months ago she went into the branch and they asked her if she was happy with her accounts and she said she'd like a cheque book, because she didn't like asking me to keep writing cheques. They went into an appointment I was there again. They showed us the screen showng her account runing in the last 12 months and her internal credit score. The manager said because of this she thought my mum would be approved and she was she now has a full Visa Debit (with contactless) a cheque book and a £100 Overdraft (with £10 buffer)

She is happy with them and Halifax upgrded her to there Ultimate reward account a month ago with £300 overdraft. She started paying of her credit cards now and I'm going to buy the house to ttake off the strain of the mortgage. I'm with Barclays and have a Premier Life its a fantastic account and am very happy... Btw I also work for NatWest

Why are you posting on very old threads? about you oh so perfectness and the fact that you do see why people would get into debt.

Well lets hope nothing serious happens to you, because if it does you may find out why people get into debt!!!
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.
