Hi,
I am getting some quotes for contents and I was hoping that someone could explain what this means?
Total limit for unspecified valuables and personal belongings (the upper limit for a single unspecified item is £1,500)
£7,500
Total value of contents cover
$40,000
TIA

Contents are general items like sofas, tables, curtains etc. Valuables are things like stamp collections, paintings, collections, furs etc.
Its saying that it will give you a total valuables limit of £7500 which is included in the £40000 contents. Anything over £1500 would need to be specified and would be in addition to the contents.
Hope that helps.
PS - personal belongings cover is from items that you take away from the home - sometimes known as 'all risks'Smoke Free since 1 January 20130 -
Jewelry is the probably the main thing you have under valuables.0

To go into it further (and without having seen the wording of the particular policy):
Personal belongings are usually defined as items of clothing and other items of a strictly personal nature liable to be worn or carried like mobiles, MP3 players, handbags, etc. (but not jewellery or money)
All of your contents would be insured up to a value of £40,000.
Of this amount, £7,500 would be in respect of valuables and personal belongings, leaving £32,500 for your general contents. Of this £7,500 the insurer will not pay more than £1,500 for any one item unless the item has been specified i.e. identified and listed by name on the policy.42 years of experience in the insurance industry.
And nothing the industry tries do to us surprises me any more!0
