Racing pigeons
My next door neighbours keep racing pigeons and they are driving me crazy with their mess. They sit on the room and mess the patio and the path. I am forever cursing and cleaning the patio and path. Is there anything I can do without upsetting the neighbours as we are in very good terms? Thanks

Soak a handfull of corn in Vodka or other spirit overnight, scatter thinly in your garden then wait for 30 minutes. Pick up sozzled birds;) and turn into pies !
Trust me it works !

Recipes will be available on the Old Style board. :whistle:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
This trick works with wood pigeons, but don't know about racers... get some bright red ribbon, about an inch to an inch and a half wide (the sort you get on prezzies at Xmas is perfect), cut into twelve to fourteen inch lengths, sorry don't do decimals, and knot onto handy low branches, or failing that, canes stuck into the ground, so that the ends flutter freely and in plain sight. Woodies think these are injured birds, and won't come down to the ground. You don't need many, as long as they can be clearly seen.
Of course, that doesn't stop the flyovers. Maybe a bill for pressure washing your patio would encourage your neighbour to be more neighbourly with his birds.
If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0 -
If you can;t get rid of them then at least make sure you benefit form them and use their droppings as fertiliser on your garden!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Could you ask your neighbours round for a cuppa, perhaps when lots of evidence is in sight, explain the problem as tactfully as you can, and ask them - as experts on pigeons - what you can do to keep them away from your property without harming them?
Failing that, get a cat! There are lots of pigeons near us (wild wood pigeons) but one small not particularly aggressive tortoiseshell cat seems to keep all of them at bay - not a plant nibbled this year. At least not nibbled by a pigeon ........"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
I presume there are a number of ways of dealing with this.My next door neighbours keep racing pigeons and they are driving me crazy with their mess. If the neighbour has no say over where his birds sit and s*it, then there isn't much he can do about it.
If he does have some say, then talk to him and point out the problem.
If you have good neighbours, then maybe it's a small price to put up with, you can clean the patio and path once or twice a year. It's only bird poo. Or maybe you could fit anti bird roosting wires or something.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
you could try a fake bird of prey.
The problem with that is you have to move it about or they get used to it / work out it is a fake.0 -
not sure if anyone has said this but air rifle?0

Thanks for all yor good advice. They do not acutally come in the garden but they make a mess when they fly over exercising. Where can I get an air rifle, I could use it when he is around to scare them? Partner thinks I should give it a rest and to stop cleaning the path and patio as I will make neighbour feels guilty, he must be aware of it. The pigeons walk in his garden but not mine, They sit on my roof and fly over the garden. Hence the mess.0
