Are you staying put?

Has the publicity regarding future house prices made you decide to stay where you are for the next couple of years minimum?

I would like to move but have decided to stay put until I really need to move when/if I get older. In my area houses sold within a month but now they are not selling, even though they've had "everything" done to them.

Were you determined to move but have now changed your mind? Is that a good or bad thing for the housing market?

I'm selling up and moving into rented...am hoping with the option of being chain-free, I'll be in a strong position to buy when the right house comes along. Will save more towards a deposit in the meantime as well.

  • I bought the HOME I wanted, where I wanted. I have no plans to move. There are better houses than mine, and certainly bigger. But this suits me just fine.

we are taking a hit of 30k on our house because we need one with a better location (more convenient) and the extra bedroom. We took the view it is better to move and be stuck where we need to or want to be rather than always feeling we want to move but cant.

i have taken a 5 year fixed rate mortgage for £60pm more than a 2 year fixed and I intend to batten down the hatches,

We've also taken a hit on our house now, as I'd rather just sell it and be done with it. We haven't found the one we want to buy (upsizing as have three kids/moving to another city) but I don't want to feel rushed into buying something that's not right, that's why we're taking the rent route. We will, however, be renting in the area we want which is a better location, bigger house (to what we currently live in) and nearer to my work etc, so not all bad.

I'm undecided. I only bought this place in mid April. It needed work doing - mainly cosmetic. Windows, fascias, soffits, kitchen and bathroom plus complete redecorate and wiring. It was a nudge under £180k and similar houses here are £240k

was going to sell when the kitchen is in so it all looks decent. Plan was to move to cheaper area and be mortgage free. I have been sitting on the svr for 18 months and just ported some of my mortgage over. I have a £50k mortage, £25 of which was for the improvements.

I have had it valued at £240 but there are a couple of others nearby in a similar condition to this one (done up). I'd considered moving to the New Forest - and Devon before that. Not sure what to do now.

If I moved i'd need a job as obviously can't drive to here. but if I'm mortgage free then I'd be happy doing pretty much any job I could find.
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j

I don't even need to see it to know that I would gladly offer £250 for it.

If you get older?? Wow, can you let us in to your secret?

We wanted to move to a bigger place a couple of years ago but decided to ride out the storm here.

I am glad we did, with prices drifting down here it means that the upgrade costs will be much less and we are paying down our mortgage as much as possible in the meantime.

It will be difficult to judge the best time to jump though.

No secret, but I've had a couple of friends the same age as me depart this world recently and I don't take anything for granted now. ;)

We bought our house in April 09 having rented for 1 year after selling our last property in April 08. I thought we had got a bargain as it was a good 25% less than the peak price but it is 'a project'. Since buying in April 09, the price of our house went back up to peak, which seemed crazy.

We were tempted to sell and cash in on the 25% increase in 12 months and then rent as we believe the market will reduce again over the next year or two or three by at least 10% if not 20%.

However, we have decided to change our attitude to the bricks we live in and view it as a home rather than a means to a quick investment.

Our plans for the 'project' initially included a large side extension, but due to the economy we have shelved it for a number of years. We have to 'do up' the existing square footage as it is a 1970s time warp but this is as far as we are prepared to invest in bricks. We are lucky as the existing size is adequate for our family needs now and in the future.

Basically, although we see it as our home and not an investment, we aren't throwing financial causion to the wind and spending vast sums of money on a property that is going to reduce in price. But we are going to relax and love the property as a home.
