Got an hour or so to kill in London one evening. Need to use evening meal expenses
Ok a bit of a silly question this but I normally avoid the capital like the plague so I have no idea on this one.
I have a set of railway tickets, the first is from Newport (Gwent) to "london terminals" and the second from "london terminals" to Aberdeen on the sleeper train. This is a split ticketing route which I picked because it was cheaper and the return journey is faster. I do however have about an hour and a half to kill in London, not including cross london transfer.
Am I right in assuming these tickets mean that when I get off the Newport train at Paddington I can then take the tube to a destination of my choosing, go and get something to eat, and then use the second ticket to get back on the tube, go to Euston and then get the sleeper to Aberdeen.
In which case what's my optimal place to go to get a decent curry and a pint of King Cobra and still have change of 25 quid* which is my evening meal allowance. Preferably without having my bags and laptop nicked.
*25 quid is the allowance limit, not target, as my boss was keen to remind me on my last bollocking about expenses.

I think those tickets kick you off at either end with no transport between.0

If the tickets kick me off either end I'll just have to buy a travelcard and claim that back.
That Bite card seems to only work for outlets at London railway stations, which at 9PM is basically going to be Burger King. I was looking for actual food in a restaraunt (since work are paying) and prepared to travel a bit.0 -
It does only work at stations but it makes the prices the same as non station restaurants.
Which station are you leaving to Aberdeen from0 -
Euston.
But I have an hour an a half between arriving at Paddington, and needing to be at Euston. Plenty of time to go somewhere reasonably close by for some proper food, which is what I'm after suggestions for.0 -
Those tickets do not cover your transfer in London - you would need a through ticket for that, or alternatively to have bought a ticket to/from London Zone 1 rather than London terminals.
A travelcard (£5.60) is going to be cheaper than two single tube tickets (£4 each)0 -
Ok, now where to get a curry, given the timeframe. That's the most important part here :P0

Well in Praed Street right outside Paddington there's a fair number of eating establishments of which the 'best' (a very relative term) are probably Garfunkels and a pub (name forgotten) both of which will do a curry - of sorts. Depends how fussy you are. There's probably some curry houses as well but I don't really look for them.
Edgware Road (a few stops on the bus or one on the tube) has lots of more authentic eating places - but Lebanese predominates0 -
That is plenty of time but I'd still get the short tube journey out of the way first and go somewhere near Euston to eat. There's a great Nepalese restaurant at 48 Eversholt St. If you prefer pub food the Bree Louise on Euston St is great. Both are seconds from Euston's concourse.0
