Hi eveyone, I had a call today from one of those no win no fee claim your charges people today (groan!!) I didnt sign up with them but they have made me think about PPI. However, I think I might be a bit thick - I dont know if we have PPI on our mortgage (birm midshires) or secured loan (black horse). Is there a simple way to find out ? If we have I will crack on with claiming it back myself as I had success with RBS reclaiming bank charges.

Do you not have any paperwork for these accounts? It would usually be on the loan agreement saying PPI or something similar. If you have no paperwork you can always ask for the agreements from the firms (if the accounts are still active) and they HAVE to supply them. If the loans are settled or you have moved mortgage provider then you can still ask that they do this but they do not have to supply. You can always however request a subject access request from them which would be all information going back 6 years usually (some have got it gone back further though!!). There is a template letter for a SAR request in the stickies on this forum.0

Hi and welcome
Good for you for not signing up with them, if mis sold any PPI you may have then you can have a go yourself with free help from this site, and you then get to keep all your ppi etc.
And no your not thick.......:D;).
If your accounts are still active, you could ring them and ask them, they should be able to confirm if you have ppi or not.
Or another way is to write a simple letter, ask that they supply you with a copy of the agreement by 12-14 days, and enclose the payment of £1 cheque or postal order.
Then for more on reclaiming, follow the guidelines on link below, and if you require any help, then ask away.;)

I will have a look through all the paperwork I have, although the mortgage is still in force Im not sure I have the original signed agreement as we have been with Birm Mid for a number of years. I think a SAR form may be in order. Thanks peeps.0

If you write a letter to just request for the agreement on the mortgage, if ppi was added it would be shown on the agreement, or shown either way.;)
However, if you want to request a SAR, you can of course do this where they should send all they have on the account by 40 calendar days with the payment of £10 cheque or postal order.

Yes do that first. They should be able to confirm if you have ppi with them or not.
Good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"
