Wols Riverbank Tales Pt 4: Restitution & Renaissance

I am amazed (and thankful) that Beechie has survived another night..:j:j...on sunday he developed gut stasis and severe bloat ....and to cap it all, an upper respiratory infection....any of which can be fatal in a guinea pig. He is in a lot of pain despite all the meds and because his guts hurt so much he has temporarily lost the use of his back legs. I wasn;t joking about the car journeys....the vibration really helped him and encouraged him to poop and therefore to eat and drink... so I have either been out in the car or jogging him on my knee through most of the night, coupled with two hourly feeds.
He's clearly angling to see the vet nurses and so I agreed with the vet this morning that he could stay with them for a couple of days so he can have stronger pain relief, intensive feeding/fluids....and a barium X ray to find out where the actual problem is. Thankfully this morning the vet didn;t seem to think the current problem is a complication of the op he had recently. They're taking him off the antibiotics as they are probably not helping his guts......but will monitor him to make sure the infection doesn;t spread to his lungs.
I hate seeing him so poorly......but he;s a fighter and in the best place... and provided he gets the stronger pain relief I'm hoping he'll pull through and be on the mend by tomorrow evening.
I'm knackered as I;ve had burger all sleep since saturday night and I have a big "dress to impress" job interview tomorrow so I'm off to get some kip now...and slap something on the massive bags under my eyes:o
Guess I'm still coming to terms with the fact that I'm just not 17 anymore:rotfl:

You'll have to get one of those vibrant vibrating things. Best laid plans...... Dozed off at about 2pm and was in a very heavy sleep when phone rang at 3pm...thinking it was vet i got up to answer it. It as a client who had sent an email, and despite my telling them that I had been up all night and been woken up they insisted on having a technical conversation there and then. Then two more phone calls in quick succession from other people re work who wouldn;t take the hint..then a stroppy email about the next flood meeting which I now can;t be back for owing to client meeting.and then just as i was going to go back up to bed....neighbour rings the bell...to talk about flooding.
Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggh......it been a long time since had so many people demanding my time when i really didn;t have the energy for it .....but I really felt the stress levels go ballistic.......and here am I considering a job that will mean pressure like that 10 hours a day or more....I must be mad
So no proper kip this afternoon :mad::mad:....instead I taped up the bathroom ceiling and had a long soak in the bath. Forgot to say the downstairs loo flush broke at the weekend so it can;t be used til I get a plumber in.....sigh.......
Beechie is still hanging on in there and taking his fluids/food and meds..but his poos are still very infrequent and tiny..There is possibly a slight improvement in his activity level and general alertness tonight but difficult to tell as the nurse had only just come on shift......I don;t think he is using his back legs yet
Had a good cry tonight seeing Beechie's empty cage (Ginger was very sweet although I think he was worried he was about to be used as a hankie). Probably just a release of all the tension of the last two days.
Will pop into see Beech en route back from interview tomorrow as it is just down road from vets.
(I do hope this company have gritted their car park as I don;t fancy navigating the ice in killer heels )
