I think I should give in and buy the same model again because other than needing a pin to reboot it , it met my needs and I even bought a charger for it.
I'm disappointed but the MP3 player market doesn't have that many options if you need a certain size.

Hopefully I will be less clumsy this time (not that I should buy any player seeing as my ears have been funny since I stopped listening to earphones but...moan , moan etc)

I'm very disapointed with the MP3/4 market also, its as if they've stopped trying now and just bring out a very poor basic player every now and then- no brand is better then another and they all are so slow to bring in new technology or upgrade things- the last Sony upgraded MP3 was a good few years ago now and there are no plans as far as I can see for them to bring out anything better- even though that last model was deemed poor quality.

What brands do seem to be doing is either ploughing their money into mobile phones or games players. Nothing for the rest of us who just want to listen to good music! I wonder if they have seen what Apple can do and got scared or didn't think they could ever do any better so stopped trying.

    Rant over!

If its any help I have the 2GB sony earpeice (no wires!!) which I use for the gym. Very fast to upload music to it, take music off and charge (charges in 3 mins). Works well for the gym as 2gb is more then enough music but is sevearly limited and not so great but I guess it depends on your needs. I never thought 2gb would ever be enough for me but just for the gym? its perfect.

    AAAAARRGGGH!

They no longer sell my model:eek::eek::eek:

So true. I want a stand alone player as I have a phone and need a large space for my music whihc is currently 12 ish but larger when I do a podcast binge. Maybe this is a sign to give up and be kind to my ears!
Or use your phone as an MP3 or just forget getting anything decent and buy a handful of mini MP3 sticks, one per each type or style of music (eg 1 for gym, one for travelling, one for weekends, one for that slam-the-wall-angry moment...);)

I love Sony Mp3 players, but there isn't a company that makes a docking station other than for Ipods. Hence I have a Nano.

I used a red wire (an ex bought it , not sure what it's called) that plugs into my Sony CD/tape player so I could listen to my creative zen via it.
It was so handy and I assume it will work with any other brand I might buy.

If it's one that just plugs into the headphone socket, then yes it should work.

  • I currently have an Archos 605 160gig pmp - 160 gig h/d with 5"ish screen for playing practically any media format. Archos' are great, but when a new one comes out they will stop supporting it - plus they dont last very long, i've had 3 so far and each one has broke after just over a year :(

the best player i've ever had is the i-river ihp-140 - you should get this!!!

search on ebay for iRIVER IHP-140 MP3 PLAYER - there is one there at the moment for 160 buy it now. it has a 40 gig h/d - connect to the computer using usb and simply drag and drop the music onto it - has an fm radio - built in microphone and audio recording via internal or seperate mic (i used to use it to record live gigs because the sound was great) - can install the custom firmware (rockbox) which enables you to play games like old gameboy games on it, plus lets you play all file formats like FLAC, WAV, MP3, AIFF with gapless playback

There many other features but too many to list - look on google, almost all reviews will be great because the player is built to last, i dropped mine during gigs so many times - ended up jumping on it a lot and still it worked perfectly.
