Thanks for that. What brand of CU would you fit in your own house?

They haven't done anything about the last recall yet - For us anyway.
We got the letter in May 2010 and hubby has phoned them several times since!
  • I used to use MK but I was geting 2-3 faulty mcb's a month.

I now use Hager who being French do things their way - for the better

Hager have the same ethos as MK used to have- they design the new mcb's to fit the old consumer units from 15 years ago (backwards compatibility)

I actually have a MK consumer unit now, but fitted it 18 months ago before they went really downhill

Hager do not sell to sheds (B&Q / Screwfix etc) and therefore do not have to pack them high and sell them cheap - they are still made in France. All the other manufacturers have shipped their production to the far east /China

Thanks for that as I was thinking of going the Wylex route and can now see why they are on sale across most of the wholesalers.

Same here B-E, but I've been using Hager for a few years now - find they have better design, more internal room and thus easier to work on than others. Wylex/Electrium are gonna have trouble recovering their integrity after this latest recall.

Thanks for that as well as I was tempted to go the Wylex route.

Any ideas/pointers for a decent supplier for Hager CSU's?

I have never used them so I can't comment on whether they are any good as a supplier but this company http://www.gil-lec.co.uk/ seem to have some good deals on Hager kit. You can get a 12 way 17th edition unit (i.e. 2 RCDs + flexibility) complete with 10 MCBs for 70 quid plus VAT.

I'm told that Wylex are bringing the production back to the UK. Too many QC issues it would seem.
  • if you look at the notice its not a second recall but a reminder that there is still a product recall ongoing

The part numbers are the same and the dates are.

The only new thing is the 4th paragraph letting people know the retrofit program is ongoing.

it looks like they are trying to keep us all updated
