Broadband speed problem

I have a weird problem with my Broadband speed and wondered if any of the ‘gurus’ here can offer advice.
I have a newish fast Desktop PC running Win 7. This is connected to a BT Hub2 via Ethernet and uses the latest version of IE.
When initially opening IE, I get 2.4Mb(which is normal for my location). However after a few minutes the speed drops alarmingly and I get 80Kb(0.08Mb) and sometimes IE stops working altogether.
Closing IE and restarting it solves the problem – for a few minutes – and then the same fault.
There are 3 laptops in the house(running XP & Vista) connected via wireless and these are not affected.
I have carried out every form of Virus check etc to no avail.
Any ideas please?

Have you tried installing another browser such as Firefox? That should show whether the problem is within IE or the underlying network stack.0

Thanks good idea.
I used Safari running at the same time as IE - both on the same Broadband speed checker website.
When IE dropped down to 100Kb(0.1Mb) the same site on Safari was giving 2.4Mb.
So it would appear to be an IE problem - but what problem!!!!0 -
The problem is, you're using IE.

Agree leaving IE well alone is a good idea, but if you'd like to resolve the issue you could try reinstalling it to see if that addresses the cause.Offical MSE Fantasy League Member :footie:0
