Strange charge on BT bill

Hi
Not sure if this is the right place to post this query but here goes!
My elderly mum has recently got her phone bill and on it is a charge of a few pence short of £40. It is for a 9 minute phone call to an 0208 553 number which is Ilford, Essex. It looks like it could have been put through by the operator as it has operator in brackets after the number. My mum is insistent that she doesn't know anyone in Ilford (apart from my brother who only has a mobile) and she is worried about it.
Before she phones BT I said I would do some digging and I have googled the number but haven't been able to find anything out apart from the fact that it's an Ilford number. Can anyone tell me if there's any way of finding out who a number belongs to? Obviously I have phoned the number but there is no answer.
Any help will be appreciated.

Unless a search engine comes up with something (in which case, the number will probably be related to a company or organisation of some sort), there is not much chance because, unlike the USA, reverse directory listings are illegal in the UK.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
