Crossing an entrance:- Telephone Wire

Does any one have any ideas how best to span a 25 foot entrance with telephone cable.

The telephoine pole is 4 foot on the wrong side and the wire then runs at +/- 5.5m to the gable end of the house about 30m from the pole. We are knocking the house down and I need to get to the caravan which is another 50m away.

I was planning to just drop it to the ground but suspect the neighbours running over it will cause damage. I supppose I could run it through a piece of water pipe.

But I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for a pole 4.5m -5.5m high to span the gap. I have a fence strainer available to act as a support.

Any comments or ideas welcome.

If its BT's drop wire you are talking about they won't be very happy. Technically you are breaking one of the Telecommunications Acts if you touch it and are henceforth branded a criminal. :D

Speak to BT about it - they can be nice people really (well sometimes).

The only way I see them doing it is putting in ather pole and not keen on paying for that.

The new house will virtually be on the same footprint as the current house so this is only a temporary measure.

We had a break in the line about 2 months ago and the engineer decreed the line was too low at the entrance I am trying to span and shifted the line to allow the 5.5m clearance even though I told him the house was coming down.

No I didn't mean second guess it - you need to speak to them about what they would find acceptable as a temporary measure until you have built the new house. You can't just do something.

I know, I know but experience has taught me that the companies just love charging you and fait accompli is sometimes the best way forward. Goodness me they want to charge you over £100 now if you call them out and the fault is not on their equipment. I just wonder what they would charge for this. I'll get them in when the house is up :)

Anyway sorted I have bough a piece of CLS 4x2x 4.8m which should do the job when bolted into the strainer with coach bolts..

Doesn't matter. You will still be going to interfere with the BT Master Socket at some stage which, whether you or I like it or not, is actually a criminal offence although I've never heard of anyone being prosecuted. Its also against the Ts&Cs of your contract with them. You can't say you haven't been warned if they get all arsey with you.

    Bon chance.

    Cheers
