DVD Turmoil :-(

Hi

I bought a clatter of Verbatim +R DVDs and burned some media to them using Nero on my PC.

The DVDs play fine on the computer but bring up unrecognizable disk errors on two standalone players I have (CyberhomeCHDVD400 and Yamada DVD2500).

Any ideas please?

I don’t believe the disks are faulty as I have tried several.

Also notice a Verbatim +RW disk brings up the same error.

I realize the Players are cheap but they have always worked in the past with a variety of disks including some unbranded, much cheaper varieties.

Many thanks

Unfortunately, because DVD-R preceded the DVD+R format, many DVD players (particularly older ones and cheap ones) simply won't recognise any format other than DVD-R.

Have you checked the user manuals for both to see whether they are ~supposed~ to be able to read DVD+R's?
  • Have you finalised the DVDs ?

Most dvd players will not play a +r dvd unless it is finalised.
  • Thanks for the replies folks.

    I can't find the User Manuals :-(

I also can't see a finalise option in Nero Startsmart Essentials - I even searched their Help index to no avail.

That said I now strongly suspect the problem is one of file type in that I'm trying to get a standalone DVD Player to play .avi files burned to a DVD.

Is there any software anyone can recommend to make such files readable outside a PC environment - or a batch converter?

    Cheers

    DVD authoring Software

Before you burn your dvd, you will need to load your .avi files into a program that creates dvd files - a so called authoring tool. Most such tools have loads of features you will not need, if all you want is a straight transfer. Find the cheapest (or free) such program you can, that accepts .avi files. You may already have one. I use "Nero VisionExpress" or "Studio". Output a set of DVD video files (.ifo ; .vob ; etc) and then burn these files (again here I use Nero) onto a dvd disc. As was stated earlier some set-top dvd players will only play -R discs (not +R), so check compatability anyway. (perhaps borrow a friends +R disc to test-play on the set-top box).
    regards
