Entitled to money back

Our car was written off on the 30th April and we have still being paying the finance while the insurance was being settled.
Are we entitled to this money back?
Do they calcualte the settlement figure from the day of the write off? If so surely we are entitled to a refund of the extra we have paid out?

The settlement will go to pay off the debt. If there is a positive balance, you will get it. (If there is still money owing you will have to pay it)

We have Gap insurance so there will be no debt left. I suppose it all depends on when they calculated the settlement figure to beable to say if there will be a positve balance or not wont it.
I would hope they would calcualte it from when the car was announced a write off as the insurance should cover it from that day onwards.

Check your gap policy, but usually the relevant date is "date of loss" - which would be the date of the incident, rather than the date the car insurer finalised the settlement figure.
