M4 into London, cheapest way?

I need to be at Kensington Hall by 1200 on Thursday. Whilst there though I might take the opportunity to nose around London. Coming in from the M4, where is a good place I can park for free/cheap and get a Tube?

  • Go one junction up the M25 to the M40 and there are plenty of tub stations with car parks - Uxbridge and Hillingdon come to mind. They are advertised as "Wembley" stations so they have big car parks for park and ride to Wembley Park. They are on the Jubilee line so they go into central London as well.

Parking at Hillingdon is £5 for the day I believe.

Hillingdon and Uxbridge are the Piccadilly and the Metropolitan lines not the Jubilee, which you can change at Wembley Park for Jubilee. Not sure if that is what you meant!

Metropolitan will be quicker in most cases if you are not going to West End-Knightsbridge etc.
  • Boston Manor is one I've used - just by the GSK building as you come in on the M4. If you time it right you can park up on one of the residential roads nearby for nowt.

I live in a small town called Langley, which is 1 min off the M4 J5. You can park by the train station here for a couple of quid (or free down some nearby residential streets), get the First Great Western to Paddington (about 30 mins) and then change to Circle line for 2 or 3 stops to Kensington. This could be cheaper and quicker than going further down the M4 as the motorway will be much busier after J5 and the speed limit reduces to 60 and then 40 further down.

When we drive up to London on the M4 we leave the car at Hounslow West tube station and then get the Picadilly line into London. Never had any problems. The car park is pay and display.

This link takes you to the TFL info on all the tube station car parks.

To be honest, probably just got mixed up with the lines!
