How many cups/mugs from one teabag
Comments

Well Im just enjoying a brew now, Mr T have a special offer on Yorkshire tea, 2 boxes of 160 bags for £6. So doubling up on teabags, only costs just over a penny a cup.
(for anyone who thinks I am being tight, honestly you do get 2 normal strength mugs (not cups) of tea from one bag! )
Custardy, I never drink coffee at home as cant abide instant and too lazy to make filter

one teabag = one mug
but if making a pot I'll use 2 bags and can get 3 mugs out of it

This may be the saddest thread I have ever posted on MSE

Looking for ways to cut the grocery bill such as downshifting brands.
DH and I always drink Yorkshire Tea (its like tea used to be
and I thought of downshifting to a supermarket own brand but then realised I always get 2 mugs of tea out of each Yorkshire teabag.
do other brands of tea stretch like this or do you have to use 1 bag per mug?
Have you thought of using loose tea and using just enough to make what you need?
I don't know the price of loose tea these days, but I would think it would be less than tea bags, especially if you don't have your tea too strong.0 -

I used to think like that, then I grew up and realised that everybody is different.
Some people like strong tea, others like weak tea, but the tea producers fool us by putting a certain amount in the bag and implying that anyone who uses a bag more than once is a penny pincher. They put enough tea in the bag to satisfy strong tea drinks, and ensure that weak tea drinkers are using too much tea. Therefore, if they follow the 'one bag one cup' rule they are using too much tea each time they use a bag.
Then, when we are 'trained' to use one bag per cup, and using a bag more than once is 'penny pinching', they bring out a 'one cup' bag, a bag that contains just enough tea for one cup. Knowing that the one bag one cup rule is so ingrained into us we won't think "hang on, if these new bags are just for one cup, how many cups could we get out of the old bags"?
And the answer is "One bag, one cup/mug" because using a tea bag more than once is penny pinching. If you only want one cup/mug then you can pay extra for special tea bags that contain just enough tea for one cup/mug. But if you buy the other sort, you can only use them for one cup/mug, otherwise you will be a penny pincher. And lord lippton didn't get rich selling tea to penny pinchers!0 -
i use sainburys basic teabags. 1 bag makes two cups of tea, but i don't like it too strong. hubby drinks it however it comes ( years on building sites and just being glad of a cuppa on a hard day) but if mil comes she has one bag to herself as she likes it so strong you can stand a spoon up in it. eeewwww0

I know quite a few people who just like black tea where the tea bag is just dipped in hot water(no squeezing of bag)for a short period. If they are all at mine at the same time I can probably make 4 cups with one bag. :j0

Yes, if visitors make tea round our house (with YT) they do it with one bag per cup and it is VILE, far too strong.
On hols in South of France last week we had some dodgy "The Anglais" teabags and they only made one (revolting) mug per bag. We then came across a shop run by an English lady selling English products including - Yorkshire Tea! which she said is very popular with the French along with Nesquik milkshakes apparently.0 -
I use Tea Direct Everyday (which I think makes delicious tea) and while I haven't ever tried making two consecutive cups from the same tea bag and I used one bag in a pot for 2 mugs and it worked very well indeed.0
