help needed regarding a return

basicly i bought i diffuser for my hair dryer and it doesnt fit its to small iv requested to return to the seller and the have came back to me with this

Good Morning,

The Hair Tools Pink Universal Diffuser is designed for professional non ionic dryers. Unfortunately there is a strong possibility that the dryer you own is not a professional product therefore without the hairdryer model name we are unable to confirm that the diffuser should fit or not.

You may return this product as a miss fitting but there will be a £3.00 administration charge to cover to outward free shipping.

Please return the diffuser using Royal Mail 2nd class signed for service as this will ensure that we receive it.

Please could you include your full name and address, invoice number and brief description of reason for return.

As soon as we recive the item we shall refund you the price of the item minus £3.00

Kindest regards
Talisha

i understand that i have to pay the return postage which im fine with but a 3 quid admin fee? iv never heard of this before, they are a bussiness seller and the listing didn`t state a size of the diffuser so surely i cant be to blame for this?
any help would be great peeps!:T

Was it BIN or auction? If the former, you can return under Distance Selling regs within 7 days and a business can't charge fees.

Hmmm you could send it back or file a SNAD as if it says it fits your hairdryer and doesnt its not as described. But if its just a case of you brought the wrong one i would send it back :)

She is talking rubbish. "To ensure it gets there" indeed...so if you don't send it back recorded it will conveniently go missing in the post :(. Paypal will make you send it back tracked though if you do go down the dispute route.

Administration charges are illegal even on "bought the wrong one" returns, and stupid to charge as Paypal will claw any monies back regardless of seller terms.

Start an SNAD dispute on this one as you are not going to get any joy doing it another way.

Did it say on the advert that it specifically fitted your hairdryer?

If yes, then open an "item not as described" dispute, and you'll have to return it tracked, then once it's reached the seller, they'll be forced to give you a FULL refund including initial postage.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Hair Tools is a professional brand for many Hairdressing items, it is only available to professionals in wholesalers and of course some places like ebay. I would imagine as Hair Tools make their own Dryers/Straighteners etc that this should really be retailed only for their items, so not advertised as universal unless tested otherwise. They should really make a list on their ad as to which Dryers it would be suited to or not suited to, which ever is fewer.

th listing stated it was universal and fitted any dryer anyway i sent a msg to the seller quoting distance selling regs and that i didnt agree with there admin fee and they have come back this

    Dear Fran,
As the diffuser you purchased had not been updated with the codicil explaining the re-stocking fee that our other diffusers have, you are quite right it would be unfair to levee the administration fee. Please return the diffuser in the original packaging together with you invoice in order that we can process the refund the return address is (iv removed this from quote)
    Kind regards

You can open the paypal dispute at any time up to 45 days after the date of purchase. So you can send the item back with online tracking (recorded doesn't always track) and allow them to refund. If they don't you open and escalate the case in Paypal and add the tracking, showing delivery. Ring PP and they generally close immediately in your favour.
