Bank takng money

The OP stated this change was made ONLINE so references to an "operator's fault" are irrelevant.
Having checked on my own A&L internet banking, if you change the monthly payment date it changes the date - none of this "making the August payment on the 28th and then the September one on the 1st". So comments to that effect are irrelevant too.
I can only see two scenarios here. Either:
(a) you actually made the online change too late in the month for it to be effective. You must give at least SOME notice for a standing order to be cancelled or delayed (I don't know how long) so you couldn't change due date from the 28th to the 1st on (say) the 28th.
OR
(b) You made the change early in the month, as you stated, and A&L have messed up. In which case, they SHOULD refund you the over-payment but then they'd also have to call the money back from the recipient as they paid it in error.
I should check the activity summary as Masonic suggests, then go from there.0 -
Thanks for that Masonic, I didn't know (or had forgotten?) that facility even existed.masonic wrote:You can view a complete history of your activity by selecting 'Activity Summary' from the 'Other Services' section of online banking.
Re the OP's timing, they said they'd made the change in "early August". So, given that A&L only require "one clear working day" notice to make the change...
...there was clearly enough time. Please note to amend or delete a standing order there must be a minimum of 1 clear working day before your next payment. If your chosen payment date falls on a weekend or bank holiday, the payment may be made on the next working day.
As has been stated though, a quick look at the activity summary will confirm the actions taken by the OP.0
