Big Red Poppy - Seeds (seed head)

Ive been given some seeds (BIg Red Poppy like plant) and id like to see if i can grow them, how do i go about it, do i just sprinkle them on the soil were id like them to grow? or put them into pots and plant out next year? do i have to put them in a greenhouse? or do i save the seed's and grow them next spring?

Im a bit of a novice in the garden but things are gonna change im all fired-up to make it spectacular next summer.

Keep them dry all winter, then in spring, put a couple (or whatever) in modules or small pots and grow them on outside, poppies are frost resistant. Of course if they aren't poppies, you'll have to find out what they are to find out if they are frost resistant.

I put them in a brown envelope which I usually reuse one that was sent in post. Make sure seeds are dry first out of the pod. Couple of days in a tray or I use seed tray holders.

Then in Spring sow some finely in some pots you dont need many. Then when a few cm thin out and plant in pots ground when reasonable size say 5-6 cm

I always store seeds in something airtight with one or two of those packets of silica gel you get when you buy handbags or stuff. Helps keep the seeds dry.

    Never failed for me.

    Happy moneysaving all.
  • Thankyou all for yor replys,

im a bit dissapointed that i have to wait till next year to see how they grow, but im going to give it a go. Ive wrapped them up in some kitchen towel and put them in a envelope with growing instructions on.

im going to have a walk around the garden and see what i can take cuttings of. i know ive got choisya, weigila, robinia are these easy to grow from cuttings?
