Help accessing wireless network

  • Ok, finally getting somewhere, having reinstalled the software.

I can now get the wireless network connection balloon in the system tray saying 'signal strength: very good' one minute then 'network connection unavailable' the next. Still can't access the internet though and still crashing sometimes.
  • you need to connect with a wired ethernet connection, then go to http://192.168.0.1

enter a username and password (the default is admin password).

go to wireless settings, and copy your encryption key to the clipboard using control C, then paste it into your wireless card settings. Not sure if that card supports WPA, so if your techie has secured it properly (with wpa instead of the less secure wep, you could have trouble getting it working). The card you bought is pretty old (the slower b standard rather than g).
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • Aaargh!! The laptop now crashes every time I turn it on with the card in. Have had enough! Am going to return the card and get a newer faster one. Thanks for all your help, Albert Ross. Really appreciate it.
