scanning document

Hi

New to this forum, - new to computers (well, we all have to start sometime!!).

Can anyone help with a simple scanning question?

I want to scan a document that I will want to print off from time to time. How do I scan the document and then save it to a word document that I can access when I need to print it off?

Need step-by-step instructions, using Windows ME, and an HP Scanjet 2100c scanner. All help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Normally when you scan a document it would be save as an image. Depending on what scanning software you are using, you may have the option to convert what you have scanned into a Word document, however this is not necessary if you only require to print what you have scanned.
 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:
  • Did the scanner come with scanning or ocr software? Is the document text only?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • Hi albertross

The document is text only, I scanned it, and had option to send to word document, I did this, it asked if I wanted to scan another document, i clicked on 'done', but can't find the document in 'my document' folder. What have I done wrong, or where is the document???

Sorry, really am new to all this stuff.

    Thanks for quick reply
  • Not sure.. you could use search, and use the date function to find all files created in the last day.

There is some help and sample "how to" videos with the software that comes with it..

  • Thanks for your help,

Will try both the links and see how I get on, and the search facility - didn't think of that!

I've done loads of scanning with an HP scanner. It normally sends them to a word file that it names 'scan 001' or similar, which it opens automatically and which then sits on your taskbar (the horizontal line at the bottom of the screen).
If you can't find it then search for it - I'd suggest searching for 'scan' or '*.doc', which will bring up a list of all your word files, so you could restrict the search to just the past week (or whatever the most recent search time it offers).
Alternatively, scan the document again but choose to save it as a picture. It will then appear in 'My Pictures' in a folder called '2006-09 (Sep)'. You can then save it as a picture, or you could copy and past the image into a Word file.
