Due to job relocation we are contemplating moving to Epsom, Surrey area. We currently live in London and would like to sell our current house in order to purchase house in Epsom. While both of us have lived all our lives in a city, this time around we are thinking of buying the property in the rural areas but not too far from schools (kids) and train station etc.
We would appreciate if someone could recommend some good areas in and around Epsom with good schools etc, equally we would appreciate you could suggest what we should avoid.
Cheers

You've obviously researched the place given such a key move for you & your loved ones...
What did you think of..
http://www.chavtowns.co.uk/2008/07/epsom-chav-central-of-surrey/Epsom is home to 3 council estates which r quite rough, The longmead Estate, Watersedge Estate and the Wells Estate.
Epsom home of quite a few Crews which cause havok.
This town is getting worse and worse. At night u can never walk around there late at night with out getting abuse thrown at you or a knife pulled out on you.
Cheers!

We moved out of London 5 years ago. We looked at both Epsom and Dorking, we found Epsom was too much like a mini London and opted for Dorking instead. Have you spent much time in Epsom? Obviously it is horses for courses and it may very well suit your needs, but we much prefered Dorking because it was more village like (although it's a town). It's on the same train line if you are commuting into London, it also has another station too (guildford to Gatwick line) which my wife ended up using to get to work 3 years after moving here.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
Epsom is okay, but to be honest if you have children I agree with the posters above, Dorking would be better as the schools are very good (Ashcombe, The Priory) and links to London are strong. Other areas you could look at are Leatherhead and probably Bookham, which is a great place to bring up children and lots to do. Apart from that Guildford is also lovely, great town and links to London are 30mins on the train, but this could be a bit further out and possibly a bit more expensive. Good luck.0

thanks guys for your help, it seems we need to go back to the drawing board again.
we will look at suggested options, i need to be not too far away from heathrow/gatwick as the work involves international travel.
Any other recommendations?0 -

How about Horsham? It's a lovely area and reasonably close to Gatwick0 -
The Bookham end of Leatherhead gets you into good school territory.0

i would not want to be too far away from Heathrow as more often then not i use heathrow. We definitely give priority to schools and not bothered about buzzing town/village life. Therefore quite town would suit us better, provided location has good schools.0

My Two Penneth Worth.
I live in Sutton not too far from Epsom .We often venture into Epsom to go the cinema , Have had no problems.
Sutton is not a bad area , good transport and access to both airports. The schools are very good .
I believe the SM2 postcode of Sutton is more desirable.0 -
thanks mate, i know sutton is good for schools etc but i get the impression that we would not get village kind of feel in sutton and probably value for money would be better utilised elsewhere?
Anyone recommend area fgood schooling to explore in Surrey, tilting towards heathrow?
cheers0 -
SE side of the M3 between J3 and J4.
Absolutely NOT the other side.
Research the schools and you'll see what I mean.
