I say he should be given them as holiday to take at another time as this is what happens where I work. I am not sure if it is the law or just something that the NHS adheres to.
Any experts on this please.
By the way I wonder how many others who just accept what they receive in their pay packet without checking are letting large companies get away without paying them their rightful salary.
I worked for Asda for 20 years ( started working for Carrefour then Gateway and finally they sold out to Asda) I did not work on Mondays and only worked part time. Before Asda took over I used to get a Leiu day for the bank holidays, but that stooped and you only got the holiday if it was your contracted day, so the only holiday I had was the 4 weeks annual holiday. We were even expected to go in to work on Boxing Day night shift (as I was on the night shift) if it fell on a contracted day because the 2 xmas holidays for night shift were xmas eve & xmas day. Fortunately I do not work there any more.0 -
Thanks Millie
He has today managed to get hold of an employees handbook.
He has worked there over 2 months and wasn't given one or had induction, this one he just happened to find on a ledge somewhere.
After looking through it, it does appear you get time off in lieu for Bank Holidays etc.
You have to take them within 3 weeks though after arrangement with the manager otherwise you forfeit them.
I still feel there are many people working there who wouldn't have a clue as to what entitlements they have and I think the company is happy to keep it that way.0 -

i worked at aldi and we were expected to be there at least 15 mins b4 our shift started eg start at 7 be there for 6.45, i always started say 5 mins b4 my shift started, when the shop closed we would spend 30 mins- 45 mins(if you finished at say 7.40 they woudl round it the nearest half hour and soemtimes they were generous ie if you finsihed at 7.45 they would sometimes mark you down as working till 8) cleaning and tidying up and we got paid for it too eg shop closed at 7 you would be out by 7.30/7.45,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
