Working for a Supermarket

My husband has just started working for a Supermarket.
He is over 60 and is of course grateful for the job.
However......his contract states 35 hours a week. He works 5 days for 8 hours so he expected to get an hour off for lunch each day making 7x5 = 35.
This isn't the case. They let him have 1/2 hour for lunch and he goes 1 hour early one day a week. Does this mean he is working 1.5 hours a week for nothing? The reason I pose this as a question is, will he get paid for working 36.5 hours instead of 35 or will they conveniently forget it.
Anyone else experienced this?

Hi,
When I worked at Tesco the full timers (35hours) got 2 x 15 minute breaks and 1/2 an hour for lunch and got to leave early 1 day a week.
So depending on how busy the store is you had a break in the morning, a lunch time break and one later in the afternoon which broke the day up slightly.
I would address this with his supervisor first or have a word with someone else in his department to see if everybody does this.

at our store full timers do 36.5 hours with 1.5 hours of unpaid breaks and have any early finish on one dayi'm living in a parallel universe0

Tesco dont pay for any breaks so if he gets teabreaks 2x15 daily then they are right. It pays to challenge0

Hi Fran
He is at present a dot.com picker but will also be driving when trained.
This is only his second week so he doesn't want to appear troublesome yet, but Tesco are worth millions so if this is some sort of `thing they do` I feel it is very deceitful.0 -

Sorry don't quite get this. Are you saying they they get 1.5 hours a day plus and early finish......what do you mean by an early finish 1 hour or more?0 -

He get half an hour break each day (unpaid) and then leaves 1 hour early on Friday.
This means 2.5 plus an extra hour on Friday making it 3.5 hours of unpaid breaks, but he is there for 40 hours a week so if you take off the 3.5 hours of unpaid he is working 36.5 hours but only being paid for 35.
We want to know will he be paid for this extra 1.5 hours a week he is working or is it supposed to be conveniently forgotten.0 -
When I worked at Tesco's, I was paid according to the times I clocked in and out, not according to my contract. I wasn't a full timer though so I don't know if that makes a difference. I would have thought a computer works out his wages using his clocking in times so it doesn't matter what the contract says

Thats right he'll be paid for what he works by the time and attendance system. It pays to challenge0
