recording streaming video onto PC

I am a big fan of storm chasing and watch a number of video streams from the USA in season. Trouble is the tornadoes usually form early evening in the Midwest which is around 2 am here and by then I am tucked up in bed.
In the main season (which is not that long) I should like to record an evening's storm watch on my PC - when I know a tornado is forecast. This is just for my own use. I can then review it the next day. If nothing fired up, then I will clear it for the next day. I have always on internet and large bandwidth. I have a large D drive I could dedicate to this.
Problem is not recording the streams but the fact they cut out at regular intervals. Going out of signal range is fine as they resume when the streamer is back in range but they also cut out if you do not refresh the screen at regular intervals. Is there any way of doing this automatically?

Why "Cut Out" ?
What is causing the cut-outs? Try going to "control panel" and looking at (in turn),
"power options" where you can control power saving cut-outs
"display" where you can control screen-saver cut-outs.
is this what you mean?
