Bro-in-law car insurance trebled!

Hi, just looking for car insurance online for my bro-in-law as his current insurer has decided to increase his premium by a ridiculous amount without any claims being taken, it's Sainsbury's.
He was paying about £400 odd quid and now they've quoted him £1291 on his renewal. Now I'm sure this sort of stuff gets posted all the time but it truly is shocking - do they not want the custom, as it's obvious that it isn't going to be renewed?

They usually do this when people havent switched for a while, they are hoping people get lazy and dont check, some people have it on automatic renewal so this kind of tactic must pay off for the insuance provider.
I havent got a car but on my scooter I had the same insurance company for 3 years because they were the cheapest, on the 4th year they upped the price nearly 4 times from £120 tpft to £430 tpft no accidents, no convictions to make it do that the swines, looked around and went with hastings bike team, £75 quote and £40 cashback from quidco so £35 a year for my insuance.
Check check and check again, they are out to take as much money off you as possible.0 -
There have been a lot of threads recently. Car insurance has gone up and the reasons are well documented. If he was coming up to year two, he has probably lost his first year incentive discount and suffered the increase to the gross premium. Discounting is not as high this year.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
