Any way to salvage/reuse/disguise a crushed Drontal?

If my cats are being stubborn I just wrap them in a towel, tilt their head back and pop it in - takes a couple of tries with the real stubborn one but easier than trying to get them to eat it in food. It's saved me a lot of scratches and a lot of wasted tablets in food which gets left.
That used to work for me with Ted (RIP), but not with George:(0 -
Or you could see if your vet sells Milbemax instead - it's more expensive, but the tablets are tiny and much easier to get into a cat!0

I have read that Drontal is very bitter but it is covered in that wierd coating to disguise the taste; obviously crushing it does then expose the taste. The fridge idea is a good one though.
We tried crushing first with our cats food but they weren't having any of it. So we bought a couple more pills and tried it via mouth - one was absolutely fine with it, but the other one, wriggled and hissed and scratched at me (I blame DH for not putting the pill far enough back in her throat so she was spitting it out), so I felt sorry for her, let go and waited for her to run away and hide, but she just stayed on the kitchen counter looking at me. So i got a blanket, wrapped her up and did it that way instead to calm her; figured she can't have been that bothered by it really and is just a big drama queen!
BTW I watched lots of videos on "how to pill a cat" on Youtube first...0 -
Second the Milbemax. Smaller tablets, much easier. When we were giving lots of medication a few years ago for various ailments, we bought a 'pill gun' as my US friends call them. Most vets sell them now, they look like a big skinny syringe, with a soft rubber end. The rubber bit has a slit in it which holds the pill. If you can get your cat to open it's mouth without too much grief, the gun makes getting the tablet in the right place far easier. It doesn't 'shoot' the pill out as such, but deposits it right at the back of the cats mouth where it can't easily spit it out. It's also very good if your cat tries to bite you when being pilled......!0

Hold the cat, open it's mouth with your hand, drop the pill down it's throat, and massage just under the throat, which will cause it to swallow. Easier to do with dogs though.0
