Petrol pump failed to dispense but registered flow

A wierd and strange thing happened this morning.

I used an unattended petrol station attached to a supermarket to fill my motorcycle up and found the first pay at pump didn't work. It authorised my card and did the actions of filling but never dispensed any fuel.

However I tried another pump, card authorised for a £99 fill and pump started to dispense (according to display) it did seem slow but as I was filling a small tank it didn't matter really, however I after a few litres I noticed I couldn't see the petrol in the tank so pulled the nozzle out and normally you would see a stream of petrol. No! Nothing but vapour and a hissing noise, but the display was still going up, and when I closed the nozzle off the display continued to rise. Only when I replaced the nozzle to the pump did it stop when it cut off!

Anyway I have been charged the £6.80 for the fuel but the retailer will not sort it out! (Ongoing pass the buck!) I filled my bike up further down the road with a full tank so couldn't have had the 6ltr the display said as I was almost empty and filled to the brim! The amount I filled up with in the end is about right for a full tank.

Has anyone else had this happen? .
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

If the pump has charged you but not dispensed then Trading Standards would be the appropriate port of call.

Trading Standards would be your best point of call first OP, specially if you are finding you are getting passed about by the petrol filling station.

I can believe what you say, and so should the company, specially for the small amount of money you are disputing.

Also, as you paid by card, contacting you card company and request a 'charge back' that should start you in the right direction, and it goes without saying, don't use that garage again :)
