Re:Laptops On The Move Best Protection?

When moving your fragile laptop from place to place 17.5 inch screen and 15 inch screen which kind of carrying case or specialised laptop carrying rutsack do you recommend? security wise too not attracting potential thieves?

The very vunerable parts liable to breakage is the 3 G Broadband "Dongle" or Aerial protruding out the side aswell as the laptop screen

I know there is special material that was featured on Dragon's Den TV Program that will give good protection indeed should you accidentally drop your laptop or even mobile phone.

Any suggestions on the best solution to this problem appreciated.

Surely you remove all protruding USB devices from the laptop before moving it?! Please tell me you do!

You need a sufficiently padded laptop case, wherein you can put the laptop, the USB dongles, the power supply cable, and whatever else you need. To protect the laptop even more I put it inside a slip-case before putting it in the main case.

The comment about security is very valid. A lot of laptop cases draw too much attention to the fact you're carrying one. I just use a neoprene slipcase from Poundland for mine and carry it in a messenger bag. I have thought of buying a piece of hi-density foam to wrap around it and secure it with a bit of stick-on velcro. Not very elegant but cheap and, I would think, pretty effective.
  • I use a neoprene sleeve for my laptop and put it into my normal bag. And please ALWAYS disconnect any usb devices before you pack it up! Otherwise you're pretty much asking for it to snap off.

I have a rucksack that happens to have a slot for my laptop:

Sorry, can't link it, its not exactly my bag, but fairly similar

Edit: ok maybe it will link itself.
  • I found the CabinMax laptop backpack to be great. Its got a padded protective pouch and loads of room for other stuff, and its rain proof.
    Its on amazon
