Banger Insurance?

I have a 1996 Ford Fiesta worth about £200. I am a 32 y/o married male with 7 years protected NCB. It is a second car just used rarely as a runabout on the smell of an oily rag.
Last year my insurance was about £130 quid from the AA for 3rd party Fire & Theft. This year my renewal was £207 quid... no problem, I will be able to find much cheaper elsehwere... or so I thought!
Is it just me or have insuranance prices skyrocketed this year?
Using the MSE insurance system, so far the best quote I have is from first direct of £186 under their 10% better offer, or from performance direct for £178
Has anyone found anyone who offers reasonable third party (or 3rd party, fire & theft) insurance for a banger?
Thanks

It is nothing to do with whether your car is a banger or not - it is to do with the cost of third party claims that have risen over the last few years - think the man that went onto the railway track and caused the train to derail - £ms in third party claims.
Added to that investment income is down and reinsurance costs are up. £178 is very reasonable compared to some of the quotes on here - remember third party is not to protect your vehicle - it is to cover the injury and damage that is caused to the people/property that you hit in your car!0 -
Have you tried seeing if comprehensive cover with a big excess for covering the replacement of your car is cheaper?I'm not cynical I'm realistic
