Can I use this to set up wireless network?

Hi there.
I am interested in converting my home wired network to a wireless network, and want to know if I can use what I already have at my disposal, as I am not really up to speed on wireless networks and the requirements.
Currently I have cable broadband from Telewest, with a Motorola Surfboard cable modem connected to a Linksys BEFSR81 cable router.
I have been given a brand new US Robotics SureConnect ADSL Wireless Gateway Model 9106. The box says it is a DSL modem and a wireless access point.
Now I'm pretty sure that you cannot use ADSL modems for cable broadband and vice versa. But, am I able to use this in conjunction with the existing Motorola Surfboard cable modem, and just utilise the wireless access point feature?

adsl is internet through the phone line so it is NOT compatible with a cable connection0

I know that ADSL and cable broadband are different, I was asking if I can use my existing cable modem instead of the inbuilt adsl modem on the US Robotics Wireless Gateway, and then just use the US Robotics box to share the actual connection provided by the cable modem?
Similar to the picture below - but using my existing cable modem connected in front of the US Robotics box?
Thanks in advanceTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
No because your wireless router only has an ADSL input (phone line) and no Ethernet input to connect to your cable model. See hereADSL socket, it is actually an RJ45 socket, but an RJ11 plug fits perfectly. RJ11 and RJ45 plugs are a modular series of connectors.
The ADSL socket looks like an Ethernet port but isn't.

From your link it looks like it's got four ethernet ports to me, so it should work.

Agreed the ADSL port does look like an Ethernet port but it can't be both! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Yes you can! if you disable the dhcp server in your us robotics adsl router plug one of the network points into one of the network points of the cable router. You are affectivley creating a access point I hope this is of some help to you0

Connect the cable modem to the Linksys with the existing ethernet cable. Connect the Linksys to the USR with another ethernet cable. Configure the USR as a wireless access point. Connect PCs/laptops to the USR wirelessly. Disable DHCP in the USR and enable it in the Linksys.

No, I mean the 4-port switch. Use on of those to connect to the Linksys.

The ADSL Wireless Gateway Model 9106 has an ADSL input which looks like an Ethernet port so I'm confused. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

I just went to the adslguide link you posted and on the 3rd photo down it clearly shows four yellow ethernet ports.
